Chinese hand painted Late Qing Dynasty (late 19th century) Turquoise Ground Famille Rose porcelain lidded ginger jar. The jar is finely decorated in rich polychrome enamels with soft colored symbols of a joyful life, these were typical motifs on jars intended as wedding gifts. The Famille-Rose porcelain was made at the famous Imperial kilns of Jingdezhen. The pieces were first fired and then painted and given a final glaze of quartz sand mixed with lead and sometimes fern ash before a second firing. The special glaze was used to enhance the brightness of the colours. Hand carved carved rosewood lid with a jade top.
